QSL Cards
This is a selection of QSL cards from both HB9DRD and G4KLX. They are classified by band. Click on the small image of the card for a larger image.
2m (G4KLX only)
This is a collection of my most interesting cards from my 2m operation in the UK. Almost all date from the 1980s when I was most active and they cover almost all propagation modes, including EME (DL3BWW). The EME QSO was made from a friends hours (Dave G0LBK now QRT), but all the rest were made from my home in IO93FB. RB5UCE is my ODX on 2m and was made using Es, RC2WBR and RC2WCG are my tropo ODX from the big opening in 1982. LA1EKO has rarity value, and the complete QSL card is worth working them for alone, HG8CE is an Aurora QSO and is another rarity. OK1JKT is included as I used to work him frequently on 3cms from Switzerland.
70cms (G4KLX only)
These cards for 70cms also come from my time in IO93FB in the 1980s. My ODX on 70cms is included here, UP1BWR in KO24OQ, it is also the first QSO between G and UP/LY on 70cms I believe. I worked him on a seemingly dead band in the big tropo opening of 1985, he later went on to call CQ for ages with no takers. OH0NC is both good DX and has rarity value, I worked him during a 70cms cumulative contest in 1985, he gave away a lot of points to participants. Y22ME is the same station as DL3BWW above, but of course represents a country that no longer exists.
23cms (G4KLX only)
23cms is one of my favourite bands, I first got active on it in 1985 about the same time as I got active on 70cms, this meant that 70cms was never used as much as it could have been because I was always looking for contacts on the higher band. My ODX on 23cms is represented here by one of the SP stations, but I forget which one. Checking old issues of DUBUS it seems I was only five QSOs away from having the first SP to G QSO on 23cms.
OZ1ABE was a very early QSO for me on 23cms before I had my antenna mounted outdoors, I poked my 23ele Tonna out of the window in order to work him, I think I had less than one Watt at the time. The QSO with GM6MGS was via a reflection point in DL during a moderate opening towards Germany from the UK, a rather strange QSO, we could detect no signals when we beamed at each other. We estimated that the reflection point was in JO31 at the edge of the opening. OE5VRL/5 is a station I worked regularly on 6 and 3cms via Rain Scatter from Switzerland.
6cms (HB9DRD only)
At present these represent most of the QSL cards that I have received for 6cms. I had one advantage on 6cms, I was the only station QRV in JN47, it was usually worth 10dB on my signal ! Unfortunately the number of stations on 6cms in JN47 has now gone back down to almost zero, although HB9MDP also in JN47HI has 6cms equipment.
3cms (HB9DRD only)
3cms, was probably my busiest band in Switzerland. My favourite card is from DM2AFN who was my ODX for a few weeks, I love the antenna system on the card, it gives me ideas that would probably lead to divorce ! I worked Karel OK1JKT and OK1VAM/P in my first RS opening from that QTH in 2001. It was a relatively local scatter point as I had to use a lot of elevation, this was achieved by my wife holding the dish for me during the QSOs, I have a slightly more sophisticated system these days. I have worked Karel many times since then as well as meeting him a number of time at Weinheim.
