Projects

• Rigs:
  • Elecraft K2 HF transceiver kit known for its superior receiver
  • AT Sprint: 3-band 85 gram CW transceiver kit. The smallest multiband transceiver around? Mine has worked all continents except Oceania.
  • Nokia-Mobira NMT-450 mobile phone converted to 70 cm band with help from LA2AB club members
  • Ericsson C60 FM-rig converted to 2 m band with help from LA2AB club members
    
• I like to build simple rigs:
  • A regenerative receiver for the 40 m band which combines the best features of the WBR 7 MHz receiver (N1BYT, QST Aug 2001) combined with some more audio gain and an audio pot according to the related 7N3WVM receiver.
  • A receiver for 20 meters based on a design by IK3OIL using dual-gate MOSFETs for mixers.
  • My first surface mount project: QRPp Pixie tranceiver for 80m.
  • Manhattan-style Pixie for 30m.
  • Single-chip VHF receiver
    
• Converters:
  • SM6LKM’s 4053 HCMOS converter from 137 kHz to 20 meter band.
  • Converter from 6 meter to 20 meter based on the WA3ENK design from QST, Jan 1997. Mine uses an 18 MHz TTL oscillator module which is doubled to 36 MHz with an 74AC86, the mixer is a SA612. In addition it has a U310 low-noise preamplifier.
• Station accessories:
  • Z-match antenna tuner
  • OH3MCK 2 m/70 cm diplexer built in an Altoids tin
    
  • QRP CW zero-beat indicator for the K2.
  • W1CG Low Power 4:1 Balun kit
  • K1EL K10+ keyer kit built into a three button mouse.
• Test equipment:
  • A combined noise generator and marker generator.
  • Inductance and capacitance adapters for a digital voltmeter.
  • ELSIE – LC-meter with an AVR processor
• Other
• PC Interface for ICOM R5 scanner for use with free software

Resources

• Front panel (WB8RCR).
• Printed circuit boards using a laser printer. The Epson photo quality glossy paper works fine and can be bought from Binders in Norway.
• Toolset for removal of components from PCB's and repair from Biltema, item no 19729.
