DL2HRF,

born in 1964 I touched ham radio in 1979 when I was 15 years old.
Although I was SWL on shortwave before (BC radio stations around
the world) I immediately got excited from getting in contact with people
from other places in the world.

So I made my first little SWL exam and started collecting QSL
cards from around the world by only listening.
In summer 1982 at the age of 18 I got my first callsign Y32QH.
Hard restrictions in the former German Democratic Republic
could not stop my fascination for ham radio. For contacts I
had to use the clubstation as it was difficult to be QRV from home.
I made a lot of friends around the world. From the beginning until now
I have always used moderate power and simple antennas.

After beeing reunited to one Germany I was able to buy my first own
equipment in 1990. DL2HRF was on the air and I still run my little
ICOM 735, that you can see  on the myqrp link. The antenna is a R7 from
cushcraft, bringing me on air from 40-10m including WARC.
With just a piece of wire as an inverted L and a shortened dipole I also
use the 80m band, but DXing is a bit hard...

So I enjoy being on shortwave bands with most people I meet.
But sometimes getting frustrated from what is happening
especially on DXpeditions QRGs. Well, I donīt think this
was as bad when I started as a ham back in late 70īs.
Lets keep frequencies clean and most of all, lets keep the ham spirit ! !

In  more than 30  years of ham radio I have worked many places around the
world.
Collecting DXCC was my favorite work. I did not stop my activity on that
but the fun has gone since the behavior  on bands has become really bad over
the years. So I changed activities more
and more to QRP frequencies.
Ragchewing remembers me of the old times!

At present I am active on qrp with an Elecraft K1 and a SW40+  from
Small Wonder Labs.

My QTH is a small village named POEDELWITZ and  another 150 non hams also
live here.We are about 20 km south of Leipzig.

my equipment for shortwave consists of:

transceiver mode power used for

Ten Tec Omni VII allmode 100W main station trx

Kenwood TS-480SAT allmode 100W 2 nd main station trx

Yaesu FT-897D allmode 100W RTTY / PSK

Icom 735 allmode 100W second receiver

Elecraft K1 CW     5W QRPing and portable

SWL SW 40+ CW     2W QRPing and portable

Antennas: Cushcraft R7 (Vertical)
                     Hexbeam up 8 mtrs
80m shortened dipole  23 mtrs long
                     30m vertical sloping dipole

I am working a lot CW but from time to time you can find me on RTTY and PSK31 and it is really
hard to catch me on SSB :-)

Currently using for CW these 2 keys
