Worldwide DX with QRP and wire-antenna?

When I started operating "QRP only" in march 2003, I did not expect to work much more than a few north-american and north-african stations every now and then. To my surprise it took me only about 3 month to work all continents and to qualify for the shown WAC award. Below are some of the QSLs that I received. My output for all contacts was 5 watts CW (10 watts on SSB) and a lot of QSOs have been made with my doublet-wire-antenna (130 ft long, max.height 30 ft above ground).

Als ich im März 2003 beschloss, nur noch mit kleiner Leistung (QRP) aktiv zu sein, erwartete ich bestenfalls vereinzelte Verbindungen nach Nordamerika oder Nordafrika, neben den üblichen Europa-QSOs. Zu meinem Erstaunen dauerte es kaum 3 Monate, und ich hatte alle Kontinente erreicht. Das abgebildete WAC-Diplom ("worked all continents") belegt diese Verbindungen. Darunter sind einige der bereits eingetroffenen QSL-Karten zu sehen. Die Ausgangsleistung für alle Verbindungen betrug max. 5Watt (SSB: 10Watt) und als Antenne benutzte ich in vielen Fällen nur die ebenfalls auf dieser Homepage beschriebene Doppel-Zepp-Drahtantenne (40 m lang, max.Höhe 10 m über Grund).

This is the QSL of one of the best DX-contacts I had up to now: VK7GK, Gerry in Tasmania/Australia. The distance was 14.400 miles, because I worked him on 20 m in the morning "via LONG PATH".

DX on lowbands with 5 watts and wire-antenna ? Yes, it works ! Jeff heard me on Curacao (Netherlands Antilles) with real 559 on 40 meters with my new vertical-loop-antenna. At least a  little sucess during these poor times of sunspot-minimum (november 2007).

I used my 2-element beam-antenna for this contact with New Zealand, but still only 5 watts output. John heard my ".../qrp" in the pileup and gave me a chance. My first ZL with low power.

Für diese Verbindung mit Neuseeland benutzte ich meinen 2-Element-Beam, allerdings ebenfalls nur 5 Watt Ausgangsleitung. John hörte mein ".../QRP" aus dem pile-up heraus und gab mir eine Chance : Meine erste ZL-Verbindung mit kleiner Leistung.

Another very nice longpath-contact with "down-under": David, VK3DBD, heard my 5-watt signal with RST 549 and answered my QSL direct with his card and a lot of photos and information about his QTH in south-east australia. His antenna has a good "take off" over the valleys, doesn't it ?

Noch eine schöne Verbindung über den "langen Weg": David, VK3DBD, hörte mein 5-Watt-Signal mit RST 549 und beantwortete meine direkt geschickte QSL-Karte mit seiner hier abgebildeten und vielen Fotos und Informationen über seinen Wohnort im Südosten von Australien. Seine Antenne hat wirklich klare Sicht, nicht wahr ?

Another beautiful 2-way-QRP-contact with Japan. OM Nan heard my CW-signal on 17 mtrs. with 559, but look at his antennas.....! This man should be able to work the whole world with 100 milliWatts !

Eine weitere tolle 2-way-QRP-Verbindung (beide Stationen benutzten nur 5 Watt Ausgangsleitung).OM Nan hörte mein CW-Signal auf 18 MHz mit 559, kein Wunder bei dieser Antennenanlage.... Für ihn reichen wahrscheinlich 100 Milliwatt, um die ganze Welt zu arbeiten.

I worked Rich from Malaysia during the WPX-CW-test in
may 2005 on 15 meters, a new country and a nice QSL
(I wonder if he's got his antenna on one of these towers...?).

Im Kontest kann man als QRP-Station sehr gut
seltene Stationen erreichen. Rich in Malaysia habe ich im
WPX-CW-Wettbewerb im Mai 2005 auf dem 15m-Band erreicht.
Ob er seine Antenne wohl auf einem dieser Türme aufgebaut hat ?
